The free Battle Royale is the only PVP or Player Versus Player version of the game. The other four are PVE or Player Versus Environment. In a PVE game, players compete against things that are not other players such as robots and monsters. Battle Royale is a PVP game that pits 100 players against each other to battle out on one map until only one survivor is left. Battle Royale was released on September 26, 2017, and can be played on a Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Mac. The Windows and Mac versions can be downloaded here. The PlayStation and Xbox versions can be downloaded in the app stores for each console.

Join a match
When you join a game, you will be placed on an island where you can run around and collect things. You’ll be able to pick up objects like guns and shot them. You’ll also see the other players but you can’t harm any of them. You will wait on this island until 100 players are online and ready to join a match. Note, one benefit of being in the area before a game starts is that you can collect resources which can be used to build objects when you gameplay starts. Don’t count on collecting much. At best, you’ll wait a minute for the next round to start.
Once 100 players are ready, you all get teleported to a bus/blimp that will take you and the other 99 in the match to an island where you will battle. A countdown timer will show you how much time you have before you have to jump. Jumping requires that you press a button (see the screen for the button you need to press for your platform). After playing for a bit you will start to learn about the different areas and likely prefer to jump while over specific areas where you want to start your battle. You have decent control over where you land and before landing a glider deploys to create a soft landing. The glider allows for very good short distance control. You can easily adjust landing on a roof in you see someone is there, for instance, to swing around and land somewhere else.

Start with 100 health + shield potential
You get one weapon to start
You get weapons by finding and picking them up in treasure chests, supply drops, on the ground, or by killing other players (their weapons will drop).
When you land, you will have just one weapon, the Pickaxe. You use the Pickaxe break materials which you can then collect. Everyone starts with a Tier 1 Pickaxe. You can buy skins to make your pickaxe look different. Pickaxes go up to Tier 7. However, there all Pickaxes work exactly the same with no advantages given to higher Tiers other than a different look.
You can use the Pickaxe to fight other players but this is ineffective. Not only do you get a short range, you only deal 10 damage per hit.
Figure out the best weapons and traps
You will encounter seven different types of weapons in the game. The lowest DPS (damage per second) comes from the Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle at 34.65. The highest DPS comes from the Tactical Submachine Gun at 234. Review this wiki page to learn about the characteristics of each weapon. Each has different fire rates, magazine sizes, and reload times. While at the Wiki, learn about the three types of traps: Cozy Campfire, Damage Trap, and Launch Pad.
Have fun!
This is more than enough to get started. Jump in and play a few rounds. Within an hour or so you’ll master almost everything you need to start competing for that #1 last man or woman standing.
